[SMM Analysis] Prices of Ternary Cathode Precursors Declined This Week and May Rise Next Week

This week, the prices of 5-series consumer-grade, 6-series consumer-grade, and 8-series power-grade ternary cathode precursors all declined.

This week, the prices of 5-series and 6-series consumer-grade, as well as 8-series power-grade ternary cathode precursors, all declined.

In terms of raw material costs, the prices of nickel sulphate and cobalt sulphate decreased, while the price of manganese sulphate rose. This led to varying degrees of price declines across different series of ternary cathode precursors.

Demand side, the overall demand for ternary cathode materials was weak this month, as the power and consumer end-users entered the off-season, resulting in reduced demand for precursors. Supply side, precursor producers generally showed sentiment to stand firm on quotes due to cost pressure. The enthusiasm for signing long-term contracts this year was lower compared to last year. With fewer calendar days and reduced downstream orders, the industry's operating rate declined.

Looking ahead to next week, the prices of nickel sulphate and cobalt sulphate are expected to remain stable, while the price of manganese sulphate may rise slightly. Based on the anticipated increase in metal salt prices and the sentiment to stand firm on quotes among precursor producers, the prices of ternary cathode precursors are expected to rise to varying degrees.
